We've been spending a lot of time reading non-fiction and talking about the interesting (and sometimes disgusting) facts that we've come across. We've also paid close attention to the main ideas and supporting details of a book, chapter, or even paragraph. This week I want you to spend time thinking about the AUTHOR'S PURPOSE. Why did the author write what he/she wrote? Did they want to inform, entertain, or persuade you? Why did they include (or not include) text features such as photos, graphs, maps, etc.?
This week you will read a few articles about sea turtles. Although all of the materials I will give you will have the same topic, the AUTHOR'S PURPOSE may differ. In your notebooks you will discuss these ideas with me... but while you're here, check out these two videos about sea turtles. What do you think each AUTHOR'S PURPOSE is?
As always, be sure you use formal language in your post and double check for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation before submitting. Your posts and comments to other students will be included in your Reading and Writing grades.
